Approaching and landing in Beijing was interesting because of the pollution and smog. You couldn't see ground for a long time and then we were landing. It is quite shocking the level of pollution. You can barely see some of the buildings.
The flight was good. They kept bringing us food and we also had a bunch of movies to watch - my faves were Chef and Begin Again. We don't look too exhausted yet; even though, we landed at what was 2:30 am EST and none of us really slept on the plane.
Here is our plane.
We then went through immigration, got our bags, and then customs. Walking out of customs is like you are walking a red carpet with tons of people standing there with signs rather than microphones!
We found our friends who made the cutest sign. Here are Mr. Jinhui Shi and his wife Mrs. Chunyan Zhai.
Next, we headed to their car and then we were on about a 1 hour car ride to their home (I forgot to take pictures but plan to go there again). They served us oranges, grapes, bananas, nuts, and grilled watermelon seeds along with tea. After a tour of their home, we headed to a nearby restaurant to enjoy some dumplings. Here we are with the Lazy Susan of food! I took better food pictures with my camera and not my iPhone. For dinner, we were joined by coupe's son and his girlfriend who partially served as our translators.
After a full belly, they helped us check in to our hotel rooms. It is now almost 9 am EST and I have been up since about 5 am the day before so eyes are starting to close. Leon and his mom have also landed safely and are on their way to hotel. Here is a photo of one of the hotel rooms.
Peace, Love, and Dumplings!
